Some time in early 2017 I received an email from Mariana. Mariana was writing from her hometown, Sao Paolo, half way across the world in Brazil. She was writing, telling me about her intentions for her and her partner Rodrigo to elope and marry in Australia.

Fast forward several months and many back and forth emails, often in broken English and with the help of a couple of local vendors, we put together once of the most intense and incredible elopements you could hope for. Mariana & Rodrigo could have eloped anywhere in Australia, but they chose Newcastle & Port Stephens, and they chose me. I couldn’t be happier.

Having never seen these guys in person I met them for the first time as I walked up the stairs of the Grand Hotel in Newcastle’s east end. Over the course of the next 6 hours we went on a road trip, they got married, they said their vows in Portuguese and no one on the planet will know what they shared except them. We took pictures, they laughed, they cried, we drank Rodrigo’s beer (He opened a Brewery back in Brazil) and they enjoyed the most picture perfect afternoon Newcastle could offer. To cap it off, we finished up with a Gelato at a Newcastle’s favourite – Popolo.

Special thanks to some very important people who helped make this day work. Jules Amidy for her super celebrant skills, Jade MacIntosh for creating an excellent native Australian floral design and my buddy Jaden Cavanagh for taking some wicked frames and being the best Esky carrier one could ask for. Enough talk, this is their elopement…
